On Friday, 8 December, Los Angeles hosted the Italian Excellence Gala, an event organised by the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce West in the framework of the Extraordinary Italian Taste campaign, organised and promoted by the Ministry of Economic Development with Assocamerestero, the association of Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad.
The event focused on the excellence of Italian food and wine, with the skilful hands of Chef Fabio Ugoletti (a former instructor at the ALMA cooking school) and Chef Parker creating a sensory voyage of discovery touching on unique speciality products specific to certain regions of Italy, such as Umbrian truffles, Prosciutto di Parma PDO ham, Burrata di Adria IGP cheese, honey from the Apennines near L’Aquila, and Trento DOC, Prosecco Superiore Conegliano-Valdobbiadene DOCG and Primitivo DOC wines.
Guests arrived at the event on a red carpet, sometimes stopping for interviews with members of the press.
A particularly warm welcome awaited well-known guests such as Alessandro Del Piero, Danilo Gallinari, and Denny Mendez.
The all-Italian aperitivo was tinged with red, with classic and esoteric forms of alchemy featuring Campari and Aperol.
Top representatives of local institutions, the network of chambers of commerce and the business community attended.
At the 2017 gala, four people were presented with awards for their talent in their fields of endeavour:
- Alessandro Del Piero, a legend of Italian football and a successful entrepreneur.
- Danilo Gallinari, an NBA star who plays with the Los Angeles Clippers.
- Diego Abba, CEO of the Italist e-commerce platform.
- Rocco Basilico, CEO of Oliver Peoples (Luxottica Group), one of Forbes’ TOP 30 under-30s in the United States.
The Italian Excellence Gala succeeded in achieving its goal of focusing attention on Italian-made excellence and the talents for which our country is praised all over the world, as well as offering guests a series of sensory experiences with an accent on the specific features that make every region of Italy truly unique.
