The “Caffè Italia” event, organised by the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario, marked the official opening of CENTItalia. This week-long celebration of Italian cuisine and agrifood products was held in the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts in the Centennial College.
The focus of “Caffè Italia” was the history of coffee over the centuries and how it came to be one of Italy's most popular beverages. During the event, the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ontario presented the "The Art of Espresso” documentary (jointly made by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada and the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Canada – West) and the “Il Sospeso” article on coffee.
The event’s 200 participants were also able to enjoy tasting sessions with genuine Italian coffee, cakes, pastries and agri-food products, prepared by Andrea Tortora (the best cake and pastry chef in Italy according to the "L'Espresso 2019” guide), Silvia Baracchi, a Michelin star-rated chef working in the Chateau Relais Il Falconiere in Cortona, by students and Chefs of the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts of the Centennial College and by a selection of local companies.
